One of the questions I am the majority of asked is: ‘How should i get started making websites? ‘
The answer, simplified, is, Simply do it.
OK. I know which sounds sarcastic, so as a teacher, I realize that not everyone has the specialized knowledge to build a website from the beginning. If they did, the website constructing companies would go out of business in a short time.
But with some knowledge, fundamental skills, and your best idea for a site, an online site of your own can be a reality.
Therefore, Here is a quick list of what you must get online fast.
Your computer, Windows-based PC, or maybe an Apple Mac is fine
If you want a site, you will need a computer. Whether you are some sort of ‘mac’ or a ‘pc’ will not matter. The basics are the same. Both systems can employ point-and-click computer software, which webmasters call WYSIWYG. This means What You See Is What You Get.
Internet Access
This is yet another obvious one. A website is located on a hosting server that delivers content to the internet. If you don’t have access to the internet, you naturally cannot deliver your site to your hosting account. I am sorry, but at this point, this requires your computer and connection to the internet. Soon, phones and other hand-held devices will probably be sophisticated enough to use for constructing web pages, but they are not in the course of this article.
Your domain name.
There are several options you can use to obtain your domain name. You can purchase a domain name via many services. One you might have heard of is GO-DADDY. There are several others. Many companies selling domain names will give you a discounted price when you purchase hosting. I have used GO-DADDY to purchase populate com domain names for years of their first-class customer service.
You will need to find a unique website that is easy to remember. However, if you have a name as the primary goal already taken, it could take a little work to develop a memorable one, but there are alternatives (more on which later).
Some companies, for example, YOLA, will give you your title at their site,
a hosting company
Website hosting is necessary to provide your web pages to audiences on the internet. While it is possible to use your computer as a web hosting server, it is not recommended for your newbies or anyone who does not have more extensive pc knowledge, so I will not talk about that here. However, web hosting is not a complicated issue. As I mentioned, many companies, like GO-Daddy, also offer hosting services. This might be a free ad-supported or even paid services site.
Hosting solutions can range from FREE advertisement support to hundreds of bucks a month if you wish to add solutions like shopping carts, protection, and other options. The price degree depends on what you want to do with your site. There are also hosting solutions that will let you have a unique domain name on their machine, as I mentioned under the websites above. Yola is only a single service that will give you a COST-FREE domain name and host a single package.
A WYSIWYG internet site editor. Kompozer is a great free editor that I purchase.
While you can still hand code HTML, I would have to ask myself why you would want to with so much software available that can do the tedious work for you. This article, for instance, was created and posted applying WYSIWYG online software.
When I first started creating websites so long ago, learning HTML code must have been a requirement, and it was the principal reason for the slow internet back then. There is various other code you would need simultaneously, like javascript. Thinking there should be some way for you to automate the process. Too bad My spouse and I wasn’t software programmer. But it wasn’t long before software came forth.
Today there is a plethora of software available on your machine to create dynamic website pages that look good and start fast. If you are a windows end user, you probably have heard of Microsoft Top Page, which claimed that anyone who could use Ms word could create a web web page with this program. While correct, the pages were often- shall we say, much less than perfect. While I no longer utilize Front Page, it is nevertheless available. Other programs you might have heard of are Dream Weaver and Adobe. I have used these programs, and while they are doing a great job, the learning curve could be high.
I would suggest an easy FREE program like Kompozer (linked above) to get started. You can have a website up quickly, with good support. However, it has an even easier way. Use the web editors offered by many web host services. Go-Daddy has internet site tonight. Others use Homestead or other WYSIWYG on the web editors that supply various layouts you can choose and fill with your content. Make sure to search for this option when buying your domain; it can help you save a lot of time and frustration.
A good FTP program like the free Filezilla is necessary if you need to publish files.
Unless you are using among the online editors, you will need to have the ability to load your files on your server. When you log on to the server, you can move your files, making your website public. Details about doing this vary depending on the FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL software you use. So make sure to look at the help files which are included.
File compression as well as conversion. One of the critical factors is the size of the images. Irfanview is an easy-to-use software that is also FREE. It enables you to reduce the size of your pictures and images so they will masse quickly.
- Once you have all the resources, you need a plan.
What would you like your website to be about? Take some time to consider this in detail.
Individual site about you
Small Business website
Photo site
Family Website
Fan Site
Hobby Website
Sports site
Your options tend to be almost limitless. Once you have a strategy for your site, you can use numerous options to put the first site up. Many companies will let you construct and host your new website for FREE so that you can eradicate steps 2 through five above. You can also purchase a website through many of these services if you appreciate it, but I would suggest going to a much more specialized domain name seller like GI-Daddy if you may have tips for moving your site afterward. Additionally, Go-Daddy is relatively less expensive as far as the costs involving domain names.
Now you have it. Pic this article, and you will have a guide on what to do, and you will be capable of posting links to your brand-new site on all your online community and blog pages so all your friends and family can see precisely how brilliant you are.
Bear in mind that if you have questions, you can get support all over the internet. Just search, or maybe send me an email, and I will try to assist you too.
I’m Barbara Cagle u have been working and participating online since about 1989. A Teacher and attained website designer, entrepreneur, and homemaker, I bring loads of information to the internet.
Back in the day, internet site creation involved hand HTML coding HTML source code when you wanted a website, but today issues have changed. When I first started, I could search your entire web in a day, now, it will take a lifetime, and you would not be able to visit each site. The dot com boom flooded the internet using content, some good and some less good.
