Fixing Issues With the Windows 7 Installation of Brother PE Design

Using Brother PE Design, users may design their own embroidered patterns on a computer and then send them to a Brother embroidery machine to be stitched. The program is over a decade old and has undergone nine significant revisions, the most recent being “PE Design Next.”

Newer versions of operating systems have appeared as technology has progressed, the most recent being Windows 7 from Microsoft at the time of this writing.

Downloading a patch from the Brother Service and Support website will allow PE-Design 5 and 6 to function on Windows 7 32-bit.

After downloading and installing the free patch from the website above, PE-Design 7 will function properly on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

PE-Design 8 and PE-Design Next are fully compatible with the 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Windows 7.

If you’re using an older version of Windows, the best course of action is to upgrade to Windows 7 (64-Bit) compatibility for your Brother Design software. You’ll have a version that runs more smoothly on modern computers, and you’ll get many useful new features and enhancements.

As of this writing, the Version 8 Upgrade, which brings PE Design 5/6/7 users up to the latest version, is still available for purchase. Most consumers will find that the features and specifications offered by the version 8 upgrade kits are well worth the cost (up to £100 cheaper than the current version ‘Next’ upgrade).

If you’re using Version 6, upgrading to Upgrade 7 includes all the features of Upgrade 8, and so on. Version 8 includes a printed instruction manual, whereas Version 7 requires printing the handbook from the installation CD. The program comes with 500 embroidery designs, the stippling stitch is faster and better than version 7, and you may use new motif stitches to achieve a fantastic effect.

The newest release, PE-Design Next, is available now. The interface has been fully redesigned by Brother to be consistent with the appearance and feel of modern Microsoft Office products. Those who have been using older versions for a long time will need time to adjust, but they will see significant benefits once they do. The card reader/writer module must be “upgraded” to work with the newest software version, which requires internet access to enter the necessary code.

Remember that the card reader/writer functions as a security dongle and that the software code used to upgrade one card reader cannot be reused to upgrade another card, reader. Beware, since some unwary customers have bought dead, useless upgrade kits.
