The term “health and wellness” can have a wide range of meanings depending on the individual.
“wellness” refers to physical, mental, and social well-being.
This post discusses health and wellness items in the context of OTC medicines, supplements, and cures.
Some people may consider wellness items as a way to help them get well after becoming unwell, while others may see them as a way to improve their health in general. Wellness items and programs can mean different things to different people, and the products can be used in various ways.
The ultimate goal of anybody interested in alternative health care or wellness products is the same: to feel and look their best.
Nowadays, it’s hard to go anywhere without seeing an eye-catching media image praising the efficacy and safety of one or more OTC medications, supplements, or health and wellness products. They all claim to be the one true miracle cure or solution for a specific problem and have equally strong claims to that effect. But how accurate are these promises, and what are the actual costs to you, both monetarily and in terms of the risks to your health?
Do a fast inventory and cost calculation of all your health and wellness products right after finishing this article. Just as learning about the authentic and dangerous side effects which can be induced by some of these drugs or supplements which are supposed to be helping your overall state of wellness is likely to surprise you, so, too, will the number.
It’s possible that you’d be surprised to learn that many of the OTC medications you regularly use do nothing more than mask your symptoms rather than address the underlying cause of your health problem.
This symptom-centered approach avoids the vital necessity of determining the underlying cause of your ailment or whatever ails you.
To recover from illness and enhance a specific health condition, or because you are growing suspicious of the harmful effects of chemically created pharmaceuticals, both are likely motivations for your pursuit of a wellness solution. Sometimes, all you want is to improve your current health level.
Some health and wellness items can be helpful in the quest to improve one’s health, but it’s important to remember that the long-term effects of using certain OTC medications and supplements can exceed the short-term benefits. If you base your decision solely on a promise of a speedy remedy, you may be paying far too much.
Manufactured health and wellness products can harm health; thus, for thousands of years, people worldwide have relied on natural handmade treatments to handle their health concerns and well-being needs. They have depended solely on plant-based remedies and other all-natural methods to achieve and sustain health.
Some versions of this all-natural approach to health and well-being may have lost popularity due to the rise of chemical and pharmacological interventions. Even by modern standards, there are still numerous “developing” nations whose citizens use only homemade remedies manufactured from plants or plant extracts for their health and well-being.
While evidence-based medicine relies on studies to prove its efficacy and safety, some alternative medications and wellness products cannot make the same claims. Their advertising regarding effectiveness is considered adequate proof for therapeutic or wellness claims. Therefore, no such criterion exists.
While herbal remedies themselves pose no danger, the claims made by some health and wellness product promoters (under the banner of being “natural”) can lead you to believe that their health and fitness products are the only answer to your health condition or wellness questions, which is extremely dangerous. To what extent are they sharing their true feelings and thoughts? If you have any health concerns, you should talk to your doctor and tell your doctor if you plan to use any alternative treatment methods, including a particular health and wellness product or solution.
Multibillion-dollar industries have used lobbying to avoid FDA oversight for years successfully. As the Skeptical Inquirer noted in 1994 on the dietary supplement industry, “Since then, these products have flooded the market, subject only to the scruples of their manufacturers,” this has indeed been the case.
As mentioned above, there has been little to no pressure placed on manufacturers of health and wellness products to provide accurate information about the substances and dosages utilized in their products. In addition, no oversight organization is in place to ensure they are punished for this failure.
So, what are your options at this point? There has been a recent uptick in the popularity of homemade herbal treatments for health and wellness.
Unlike store-bought alternatives, making your own health and wellness products puts you squarely in the driver’s seat. With the right amount of advice from a credible practitioner, you are more familiar with any health concerns, if any, and you know exactly what the substances are and the true dosages.
If you know, you can use the same tried-and-true methods that have helped people for generations. For instance, developing natural healing remedies that address specific health concerns rather than just the symptoms by employing naturally prepared herbs, vitamins, minerals, nutritional supplements, essential oils, and flower essences.
Manufacturers of health and wellness products have a vested interest in making you believe that their product is your only choice. They don’t want you to realize that herbs and home medicines have been utilized successfully for thousands of years because of their plentiful natural resources and powerful health-giving properties. These treatments can’t be patented since anyone can produce them at home for pennies on the dollar.
With just a little bit of knowledge, you can start making your own health and wellness products and remedies, using nothing more than the readily available natural resources in your home and garden. This is true whether your goal is overcoming illness, drug intolerance, allergies, or optimizing your already good health. You can avoid spending your hard-earned money on unnecessary additives and adverse effects and save money, too.
Are you curious about the possibility of treating various common conditions with no more than the herbs, vitamins, and nutrients you can grow in your garden?
